Why Join IASLT?


IASLT is the professional body for speech and language therapists working in Ireland.

It is an organisation run by its members for its members, which despite its size maintains a high profile nationally and internationally. It allows you to keep in contact with professional issues which influence your practice. Because IASLT is part of an International Mutual Recognition agreement for recognition of professional association credentials, full membership of IASLT facilitates recognition of your SLT qualification in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Student Membership

Student Membership :
Cost: €15 per year

Why should you become a student member?

  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies
  • You will be eligible to attend the IASLT annual student conference

Are you eligible to be a Student member?

  • You must be studying for a professional qualification in speech and language therapy in Ireland, UK, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
  • Please note, if you complete your training and qualify outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children before you can transfer to another membership category. More information

New Graduate Membership

New Graduate Membership

New Graduate Membership :
Cost: €120 per year

  • This category is for SLTs in their first year of clinical practice who are practising in the Republic of Ireland.

New Graduate Member practising overseas

New Graduate Member practising overseas :
Cost: €100 per year

  • This category is for SLTs in their first year of clinical practice who are practising outside of the Republic of Ireland

Non Practising New Graduate Member

Non Practising New Graduate Member :
Cost: €80 per year

  • This category is for those who are qualified as an SLT but have not yet commenced work


Why should you become a new graduate member?

  • As a New Graduate member, you will have full voting rights at IASLT meetings (if practising in ROI)
  • You will have professional indemnity insurance (within ROI only – not valid if practising overseas.) In order for insurance to be valid, you must meet IASLT supervision requirements.
  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies
  • You will be allowed to use the title New Graduate MIASLT
  • You will be eligible to apply for full membership after one full membership year of supervised practice.

Are you eligible to be a New Graduate Member?

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • If you qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. More information
  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • You may hold new graduate membership for a maximum of two membership years.
  • You must agree to meet IASLT standards for continuing professional development. New graduate members are not subject to audit.
  • If you are not working, you should join as a non-practising new graduate member (see non practising memberships for more details)

Full Membership

Cost: €160 per year

  • This category is for SLTs practising in the Republic of Ireland.

Full member practising overseas

Full member practising overseas :
Cost: €100 per year

  • This category is for SLTs practising outside of the Republic of Ireland.

Full member with honours

Full member with honours :
Cost: No Fee

  • This category carries the same entitlements and requirements as other full membership categories. However, no fee is payable by full members with honours.
  • This is in acknowledgement of significant contributions an SLT has made to the field and the organization, and is awarded by the IASLT.


Why should you become a Full Member?

  • As a Full member, you will have full voting rights at IASLT meetings
  • You will have professional indemnity insurance (within ROI only – not valid if practising overseas.)
  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies
  • You will be allowed to use the title MIASLT
  • You will be able to obtain a letter of good standing.
    • This can be used if you are applying for membership of an association that has signed the Agreement for the mutual recognition of professional association credentials (MRA). This is only available to current full members who have held full membership for at least one continuous year.

Are you eligible to be a Full Member?

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • If you qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. More information
  • You must be practising as an SLT for a period of over one year, and have practiced within the previous two years. If you are in your first year of clinical practice, you must join as one of the new graduate membership categories.
  • You must agree to meet IASLT standards for continuing professional development. 10% of full members are audited each year, whether practising in Ireland or overseas.

Non Practising Membership

  • This category is for those who are qualified as an SLT but have not yet commenced work.

Why should you become a Non Practising New Graduate member?

  • You will pay a lower cost than other new graduate membership categories
  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies

Are you eligible to be a Non-Practising New Graduate member?

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • If you qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. More information
  • You must not be currently practising as an SLT
  • When you begin to work, you must transfer to a new graduate membership

Non-practising member

Non-practising member :
Cost: €80 per year

  • This category is for those who are qualified and have worked as an SLT but are not currently practising.

Why should you become a Non Practising Member?

  • You will pay a lower cost than full membership category.
  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website.
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies

Are you eligible to be a Non-Practising Member?

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • If you qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. More information
  • You must not be currently practising as an SLT but have worked as an SLT in the past.
  • If you recommence work you must transfer to Provisional membership and follow IASLT’s return to practice guidelines.


Provisional Membership

Provisional Membership :
Cost: €120 per year

  • This category is for SLTs who have not practiced for more than 2 years.
  • This membership category allows those SLTs to complete IASLTs “return to practice” process. On successful completion of this process, provisional members may transfer to the appropriate membership category.

Why should you become a provisional member?

  • You will have professional indemnity insurance (within ROI only – not valid if practising overseas.) In order for insurance to be valid, you must meet IASLT supervision requirements.
  • You will be able to access the members’ area of IASLT website.
  • You will receive all IASLT publications for the duration of your membership
    • Update magazine twice a year
    • The Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies
  • You will be eligible to apply for full membership following completion of the “Return to practice” guidelines.

Are you eligible to be a Provisional Member?

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • If you qualified outside the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. More information
  • You must agree to meet IASLT standards for continuing professional development. Provisional members are not subject to audit.

  • You must hold a recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy. This can be a qualification obtained in Ireland or overseas.
  • Please note, if you qualified outside of the Republic of Ireland, your qualification must be validated by the Department of Health and Children before you will be approved for transfer to other membership categories. More information
