IASLT and its members believe that communication is a basic human right. IASLT are therefore proud to be a founding member of the International Communication Project (ICP) which works globally to promote and protect the rights of those with communication disability.
This week the ICP brings their message to their biggest stage yet, when they host a Side Event at the United Nations (UN) conference on disability at UN Headquarters in New York City, USA. Securing this event represents a significant achievement for the ICP, and a momentous step towards increased visibility and participation for those with communication disability worldwide.
The event is titled “People With Communication Disabilities Speak Up For Inclusion and Participation” and will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, 13:15 p.m. – 14.30 pm (GMT+1).
The IASLT representatives on the ICP have played a vital role in bringing this event together, from developing the policy research underpinning the event, to planning and promotion of the occasion. We are now calling on all IASLT members to support the event, and the work of the ICP, in any way they can, e.g:
Together, we can ensure that the right to communicate is recognised and respected.
Yours in membership,
Jess, Jonathon, Caroline, Aoife and Mohamed
