Registrants will be required to complete 35 modules (self-directed learning) online over 90 days beginning in November/ December 2022

About the course:

Online LSVT LOUD Training and Certification (previously ran as a 2-day face-to-face event) is designed to train speech-language clinicians a voice/speech treatment technique for adults and children with motor speech disorders, with a specialty in Parkinson's disease.

The fundamental underlying key treatment elements, efficacy data supporting treatment outcomes, details of treatment tasks, including hands-on practice, and practical considerations are taught.

Application of the LSVT LOUD® treatment to paediatric and adult motor speech disorders (e.g., multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and stroke) will be discussed. The impact of LSVT LOUD® treatment on pre/post neural imaging data will be presented.

Structure of Course:

  • Online, self-directed learning using pre-recorded material
  • Date is flexible as self-directed but participants must agree to start the training in November/ December 2022  
  • 60 days to complete training
  • Takes about 14 hours to complete
  • Final certification exam that requires a pass rate of 85%. If individuals do not pass, they are eligible to re-take it.
  • This course is open to all SLTs but will be subsided for a limited number of SLTs employed in the publicly-funded health service.

Learning outcomes: 

Upon conclusion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Outline the rationale for the treatment of voice in motor speech disorders
  2. Identify aspects of Parkinson disease and other neural conditions and the impact these have on voice and speech
  3. Explain the rationale for using LSVT LOUD® for Parkinson disease and other paediatric or adult neurological disorders/conditions
  4. Describe the key paradigm shifts in LSVT LOUD® rationale and methods
  5. Discuss key elements of LSVT LOUD® that are consistent with theories of motor learning and principles of neural plasticity
  6. Identify characteristics of adults and children who would most likely benefit from LSVT LOUD®
  7. Explain and demonstrate all aspects of LSVT LOUD® including daily tasks, speech hierarchy, and calibration
  8. Define recommendations for patient long-term carryover of LSVT LOUD®
  9. Explain the benefits of LSVT LOUD® to physicians and other health-care professionals
    Outline the process for documenting the efficacy of LSVT LOUD®
     

Further clarification of Fees:

€195 for SLTs working in the publicly-funded health service, partially funded by the National HSCP Office

Terms & Conditions:  Applicants will be asked if they have read and agreed to the following Ts & Cs when they register their interest for this training.

  1. Applicant’s current practice area must match the aims of the training.
  2. Attendance at the training event must impact your current practice.
  3. Applicants must be working in the publicly-funded health service to avail of the subsided fee of €195.
  4. In the event of a cancellation, applicants must give 48 hours notice by emailing cpdadmin@iaslt.ie. Otherwise, the fee is non-refundable. Notification of cancellation must be sent to cpdadmin@iaslt.ie and not to any other email address/ supplier.
  5. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that they discussed attending the training course with their line manager and made necessary arrangements to attend prior to registering for a place on the course.
  6. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the training course fulfils a CPD need identified as part of their own CPD planning.
  7. It is the responsibility of the applicant to attend 100% of the course and complete all related tasks/ assignments.
  8. IASLT reserve the right to withdraw a place from a registrant if they do not meet the required criteria.
  9. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they have provided the correct contact details at the time of registration, as the contact details provided at this time are used to notify applicant of event status/ updates.
  10. Information that you provide at the time of registration is used solely for the purposes of administering your participation in this event.
