Phonetic Transcription Practical Training with Dr Irena Yanushevskaya 25th April 12pm - 1pm Details

Phonetic Transcription Practice Event with Dr Irena Yanushevskaya 25th April 12pm - 1pm

Phonetic Transcription Practice Event with Dr Irena Yanushevskaya 25th April 12pm - 1pm

IASLT are  delighted to collaborate with Dr Irena Yanushevskaya again to support SLTs  in gaining confidence in their phonetic transcription skills.

Last year Irena facilitated two well-received courses on Phonetic Transcription for Speech and Language Therapists on behalf of IASLT. In their course feedback, many therapists told us that they would like more sessions practicing transcription with the support of Irena.

We are hoping to provide this opportunity to SLTs on an ongoing basis.

The first of the series of transcription training sessions will take place on April 25th at 12pm.  There will be a limited number of attendees at the event to facilitate participation.

Session Format

Before the event a recording will be shared with all attendees;  they will be asked to transcribe  the recording and submit their transcriptions by the 16th April.  The live training session on 25th April will be used to review transcriptions and discuss issues that arise when transcribing. It is proposed that a sample taken from the DEAP assessment will be used to make this training session as practical as possible for SLTs.

Collecting DEAP Recordings

To assist us in planning this event, we would be grateful if  you would consider submitting a recording of a client’s DEAP assessment - Phonology section of the DEAP is preferable.

  • Do you have a client with an atypical speech pattern  that you find difficult to capture as you transcribe their DEAP responses?
  • Do you find yourself guessing the diacritical mark to denote a specific phonetic  feature and reverting to a written description?

We would welcome any submissions of recordings that we can all learn from.

Please contact cpdadmin@iaslt.ie if you are interested in contributing a recording and we will arrange to for you to submit it to us securely and with the appropriate permissions.
