Title: Resilience Workshop
DATE: WEDNESDAY 3RD FEBRUARY 2021
TIME: 09.30 -4PM
FEE: €20 FOR MEMBERS OF IASLT; €80 FOR NON-MEMBERS.
Resilience Workshop: This workshop is a practical exploration of the phenomenon of resilience as it applies to professionals who work in a clinical setting. This includes clinicians such as psychologists, counselors, social workers, Speech and language therapists, nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, care assistants as well as managers and administrators. While its primary focus is on learning skills and developing strategies on building and maintaining resilience in a pressured, under resourced environment, it also has a focus on awareness and understanding the dynamics of our temperaments, organizational dynamics and projections of service users and their families onto us in the course of our work. Expectations of service users are increasing. There is a follow on pressure within multidisciplinary teams where shifting of stress from one to the other is an important dynamic. The format and style of delivery of the workshop is light hearted but feedback from countless staff teams from all over Ireland in a variety of care settings indicate that the workshop has a lasting and very useful impression with practical tips and fresh perspectives.
FACILITATOR: Gerry Farrell is a clinical supervisor and Lecturer. He has lectured at Trinity College Dublin and at NUI Maynooth as well as at IT Sligo. He provides clinical supervision to a variety of professionals in clinical and social care settings. He has worked for over 40 years in the care sector in a number of settings including general psychiatry, dementia care, disability sector, eating disorders, addictions and residential child care. His research and more recent clinical work involves studying the impact of vicarious trauma on clinicians and others in a variety of sectors. He is a frequent key note speaker at conferences and has facilitated countless CPD training days and workshops all over Ireland.
