ACS Online Webinar - 6th November 1pm (Ireland)

Title:

Raising awareness of aphasia through a co-designed website

Description:

Advances in Communication and Swallowing are pleased to host an online webinar on Wednesday, November 06th at 1pm (Ireland).

Approximately 7500 people in Ireland have a stroke every year, with more than 1/3 of stroke survivors living with aphasia, a post-stroke communication disability. Despite the numbers of people living with aphasia, research shows that the general public does not know what aphasia is. Stroke survivors and their families also report a need for more understanding about aphasia and how to access relevant supports.

Dr Helen Kelly (University College Cork) invited stroke survivors with aphasia and a Digital Humanities student, to co-design a website to raise awareness of aphasia and the Aphasia Home Café she established with her speech and language therapy students. She, along with fellow co-designers of the website, discuss the development of the website, endeavours to make it accessible for stroke survivors and its importance to stroke survivors and their families.
