Rationale: 

Paediatric FEDS was the most-requested area of CPD by SLTs nationally in 2025, therefore, funding was sought for this training opportunity. 

Brief description of content:

  • Responsive Feeding Therapy (goals and values)
  • Responsive feeding in practice
  • Introduction to a phased RFT intervention (including assessment)

Teaching approaches:

This training will include:

  • Taught content (with supporting slides)
  • An interactive component (using breakout rooms)
  • Case examples Q&A

Duration:

6 hours (2 x 3 hours over two afternoons)

Speaker Bios: 

Dr Jo Cormack (MBACP, registered):

Jo is a responsive feeding specialist, researcher, and registered therapist. She helps families of avoidant eaters with the relational and emotional aspects of food and feeding using her Emotionally Aware Feeding (EAF) Model. Jo has a PhD in psychology; the topic of her doctoral work was parental feeding practices in the context of avoidant eating, and she continues to conduct research in this area, both in the UK where she lives, and as part of international collaborations. Jo is a co-founder of Responsive Feeding Pro - an online training hub for feeding professionals. Jo is the author of Helping Children Develop a Positive Relationship with Food (Jessica Kingsley Publishers). She trains and supervises feeding professionals and is interested in helping clinicians from diverse disciplines draw on psychological and psychotherapeutic theory in their practice.

Heidi Moreland MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CLC:

Heidi is a speech language pathologist, and certified lactation counselor, and a Board- Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. She specializes in working with families and children who struggle with eating or learning to eat. She started as an early childhood educator and has been practicing as a speech pathologist for almost 25 years. She is the clinical coordinator and a treating therapist at Thrive by Spectrum Pediatrics. Her passion is helping children and families connect and find joy in food and each other.

Heidi has taught graduate level courses in communication, swallowing and related disorders. She is a frequent speaker on eating and swallowing development and treatment in children and is a co-host of the Tube to Table podcast, and the upcoming podcast, Love, Eat, Thrive. She is also one of the authors of the Responsive Feeding White Paper and an RFPro Team member. 

 

Dr Hazel Wolstenholme:


Dr Hazel Wolstenholme is a child feeding specialist based in Ireland. She completed her BA Psychology and PhD at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Her PhD specialised in families experiences and management of “fussy” eating behaviours. Hazel completed training in Sensory (SOS), Behavioural (ABA) and Responsive (EAF) feeding interventions. She works as a child feeding specialist, supporting families with feeding challenges and providing consultancy and training to health professionals. Hazel has presented at international health behaviour conferences and published research in leading academic journals including Appetite and IJBNPA. Based on her PhD findings, Hazel has developed the Bicycle Model of Child Feeding to bridge the gap between psychology research and clinical practice.

  • This course is open to IASLT members and non-members.
  • As this course is funded by the NHSCP office, for prioritisation you must be working in a  publicly funded health service
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the training course fulfils a CPD need identified as part of their own CPD planning.
  • You must commit to attending the entire length of the course.
  • You must observe the cancellation policy.

This event has a limited number of places, the cost per attendee is significantly subsidised by funding from the National HSCP Office, applicants must give a minimum 10 days notice of cancellation, by emailing kathleencpdadmin@iaslt.ie

This notice is required so that we can reallocate cancelled places.

Failure to give 10 days notice will result in:

  • Exclusion from further HSE funded CPD events for minimum 12 months.
  • Requirement to reimburse the FULL cost of the course.
