Cleft SIG Ireland - Cleft Palate Speech; Analysis and Intervention from Phonetic, Phonological, Psycholinguistic and Psychological Perspectives by Dr. Anne Harding Bell

Dr. Anne Harding-Bell has specialised in the assessment and treatment of speech difficulties associated with cleft palate for 30 years. Her PhD studies compared the impact of different surgical regimes on speech development which led to co-authorship of the GOS.SP.ASS speech assessment with Debbie Sell and Pam Grunwell, while she was working at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, London.

She has edited and co-authored a comprehensive textbook ‘Case Studies in Cleft Palate Speech’ (2019) which includes a wealth of video material and many new perspectives relating to cleft palate.

Areas on the study day include:

  • Cleft Speech Characteristics
  • Articulation ‘disorder’ in a psycholinguistic framework
  • Ethical, phonetic, and phonological perspectives of intervention within a psycholinguistic framework
