Presenter information:  Robin Callaghan (Speech & Language Therapist)

Mr Robin Callaghan is a qualified Speech and Language Therapist with a history of working in a variety of settings, including forensic institutions in the British high secure estate, outpatient community mental health settings for young people and adults, and independent practice in the Irish Prison Service. Focusing on how systems interact and communicate internally and externally, Mr Callaghan champions the client voice within services. Mr Callaghan has helped develop assessment protocols for use within Irish and UK forensic services. Mr Callaghan has also helped establish SLT services in a variety of settings and has developed a range of individual and group interventions to target emotional literacy, interpersonal effectiveness, and improve language skills.

  • The scope, scale, and limitations of the role of the SLT within the Justice System
  • Principles of SLT and their interactions with the Justice System
  • Barriers and obstacles when working with systems
