Outline of the webinar: The recorded webinar is best suited to the needs of SLTs who have little knowledge of FEES, and/or are thinking of setting up a FEES Service. The focus of the webinar is to give SLT’s a broad understanding of the following:
About the Speakers:
Dr. Patricia Gillivan-Murphy is a Clinical Specialist (Voice) at Voice and Swallowing Clinic at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. She received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College, and post-graduate MSc and PhD from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne UK. She is the clinical lead in FEES at the Mater, mentoring and training SLT’s within the department and in other settings. She developed the 1st FEES course in Ireland in 2015 with support from Dr. Susan Langmore, and which was accredited by IASLT. She is passionate about the larynx in voice, swallowing, and upper airways disorders and is a great advocate for SLTs using videonasendoscopy for assessment and treatment.
Ciara Murphy is the Interim Speech and Language Therapist Manager and Early Supported Discharge for Stroke Team Manager at the Mater Misericordiae University HospitaI (MMUH). She graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008. She is currently completing a MSc in Leadership in Healthcare. Clinical areas of interest include voice and swallowing assessment and diagnostics in critical care and more specifically in the cardiothoracic surgery cohort. She is a practicing FEES endoscopist having completed the IASLT accredited National FEES course and practical training at MMUH in 2015. She has a keen interest in developing services and progressing person-centred quality improvement initiatives at local and national level. She is an IASLT member and past IASLT council member (2016-2017). She is the IASLT Representative on the ORL-HNS Model of Care Implementation Group (2019-2021).
