Participant criteria:

This webinar is most relevant to Speech and Language Therapists working with school-aged students, but may also be of interest to Educational Psychologists, SEN Coordinators, Special Education Teachers, and other professionals involved in planning or delivering literacy interventions. 

Overview of the presentation:

This webinar focuses on the identification and assessment of literacy difficulties in order to guide effective, evidence-based instruction and intervention. It will provide an overview of current research, practical assessment tools, and intervention strategies for supporting children and young people who experience literacy difficulties, with an emphasis on structured literacy approaches.

Learning outcomes:

  • Participants will gain knowledge of evidence-based practices in literacy assessment and instruction, grounded in current research, and acquire practical insight into how assessment data is used to plan and monitor structured literacy interventions.

Speaker information/ bios:

Dr Sylwia Kazmierczak-Murray CORU Reg. SL011030, Assistant Professor, Institute of Education, Dublin City University; with Christina Hannify and Dr Paula Lehane. The presenters are from the Institute of Education, Dublin City University where they teach on Master of Education in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) and Graduate Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education. Their research expertise is in the area of language and literacy teaching and assessment, and interprofessional practice between SLTs and Teachers.
