We are delighted to invite Professor Tricia McCabe to present this training course once more for IASLT members and non-members.

It takes place over 4 mornings: 20th & 21st June AND 27th & 28th June 2024 - 09:30am - 12:30pm. The course is divided into two workshops each workshop will run over two mornings. When registering you are registering to attend BOTH workshops.

Workshop A: 20th and 21st June - 09:30am - 12:30pm

Differential diagnosis of severe speech disorders in children

Learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand recent research developments in diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and other speech sound disorders in children.
  • use theoretical frameworks to develop a diagnostic hypothesis in moderate- severe speech impairment in children and have tools to test their hypothesis
  • Understand the presentation of CAS and other speech disorders across the lifespan
  • Discuss problem solving in diagnosis of children with complex speech disorders.

Workshop B: 27th and 28th June - 09:30am - 12:30pm

Treatment of severe speech disorders in children.

Learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will: 

  • Understand recent research developments treatment of severe speech disorders (phonology, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS aka dyspraxia)  and dysarthria)
  • Know about free resources which will help them implement evidence-based practice in CAS and other speech disorders
  • Discuss problem solving in treatment of children with dual diagnoses

About the facilitator: 

Dr Tricia McCabe is Professor of Speech Pathology at The University of Sydney. Her research, teaching and clinical practice are focused on moderate to severe speech disorders. Tricia leads a research team which has developed the ReST intervention for childhood apraxia of speech and is currently conducting a large clinical trial comparing DTTC treatment to usual care in Australia and the USA.
