This paper has been written on behalf of IASLT by the members of the Linguistic and Culturally Diversity Special Interest Group (LCD-SIG) chaired by Dr. Mary-Pat O’Malley. IASLT would like to extend thanks to the authors for their extensive contribution in the development of this paper.
This IASLT paper reinforces our shared commitment to culturally responsive practice in speech and language therapy. Drawing on international research reminds us that multilingualism is the global norm. It calls on SLTs to advocate for equitable, inclusive services that respect and support all of a person’s languages. Stating, culturally responsive practice is not a destination but a lifelong journey toward becoming more effective across cultures.
