IASLT are delighted to host this event in collaboration with Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
Facilitators:
Dr. Patricia Gillivan-Murphy PhD., Clinical Specialist SLT, Mater Hospital, Dublin
Mr. Ruzaimi Ramli, FRCS (ORL-HNS), UCD Special Lecturer/Clinical Tutor in Otorhinolaryngology
Background to Course
Working together for a number of years at the Voice & Swallowing Clinic at the Mater Hospital, we are aware of the challenges encountered by SLT’s starting out on videonasendoscopy training for FEES and/or voice and upper airway disorders. We see two main challenges for SLT’s (1) lack of confidence around the anatomy and physiology of the larynx and upper airway (2) lack of opportunity to engage with the equipment necessary to conduct a videonasendoscopy exam.
Thus, we have designed a course to meet these challenges with the focus on increasing knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology, and on passing a nasendoscope first in a simulation context and then on a human.
