Funded by the HSE National HSCP Office as part of a joint CPD funding submission with Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy (IIRRT) and priority is for those employed in publicly funded health care settings. Course Overview:

IASLT are delighted to be working with the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy to bring you this online course "Introduction to Videofluoroscopy" which will take place over 4 half days. 

PLEASE NOTE: This is an introductory course to Videofluoroscopy. It does not provide you with the competencies to analyse, conduct or interpret videofluoroscopies independently.

Dates: 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd October 2026

Time:   10.30am - 12.30pm

Topics Covered Include:

  • Applied anatomy & swallow physiology
  • Applied fluoroscopy
  • Causes, assessment and management of swallowing disorders
  • Introduction to analysis and reporting proformas and scales
  • Critique of international, national, local Videofluoroscopy guidelines

Facilitators:

Prof Julie Nightingale - 

Julie is a diagnostic radiographer by background and following several years in clinical practice she has spent most of her career in academic leadership roles in both teaching and research.  Since joining Sheffield Hallam in 2017 she has focused on research, leading a range of funded projects and supporting the development of research capability and capacity within the health professions.

Dr Elizabeth Boaden - 

Liz is a Speech and Language Therapist. She is part of the Stroke Research Team with a specialist interest in swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). Her portfolio of research includes the assessment and management of swallowing difficulties in acute stroke in Low-to-Middle Income Countries, swallowing assessments and oral care. She teaches on undergraduate and post-graduate courses and works with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists on dysphagia competencies for the profession.

All applications will be reviewed and participants will be advised by IASLT whether they have been successful. 

In the event that the course is oversubscribed priority will be given to applicants who best demonstrate in their application: the benefit this training will have for service users and the benefit this training will have for their service and/or HSCP colleagues.
