About the course:

The Online LSVT LOUD for KIDS Training and Certification Course teaches speech-language pathology professionals, students, and assistants in an evidence-based, intensive speech treatment protocol for children with motor speech disorders, with a focus on cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. Master the LSVT LOUD for KIDS exercises and treatment methods through video-led practice sessions.

  • Discover the key treatment principles of LSVT LOUD and its research support.
  • Master the LSVT LOUD exercises and treatment methods through video-led practice sessions.
  • Learn how to tailor LSVT LOUD to successfully improve communication in children with a wide range of abilities and goals.
  • Determine how and when to apply LSVT LOUD for children with pediatric dysarthria.
  • Receive helpful implementation tips enabling you to offer LSVT LOUD in any practice setting, including school-based settings.

Teaching techniques include pre-recorded lecture, video demonstrations, interactive case study presentations, knowledge review questions, and an online exam.

Course Length: 14 hours (online self directed learning)

Learning Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the rationale for the treatment of voice in childhood motor speech disorders
  • Paraphrase key concepts of LSVT LOUD for Parkinson’s disease
  • Summarize the research on LSVT LOUD for Parkinson’s disease
  • Identify at least two features of voice that are targeted in LSVT LOUD for children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome
  • Express the rationale for a singular focus on healthy vocal loudness for childhood motor speech disorders
  • Recognize how and why intensive training is delivered within and across sessions of LSVT LOUD
  • Summarize research findings that support use of LSVT LOUD with children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome
  • Discuss key elements of LSVT LOUD that are consistent with theories of motor learning and principles of activity-dependent neuroplasticity
  • Demonstrate all aspects of LSVT LOUD treatment including daily exercises, speech hierarchy exercises, homework exercises, and carryover assignments
  • List five teaching techniques unique to the LSVT protocols
  • Distinguish between functional phrases, hierarchy tasks and carry over assignments
  • Summarize how to adapt LSVT LOUD to address client specific goals across a range of speech severity and cognitive function
  • Discuss strategies for implementing and monitoring calibration (i.e., generalization of healthy vocal loudness outside of the treatment room) in LSVT LOUD.
  • Identify three key implementation considerations for delivering LSVT LOUD via telepractice
  • Synthesize information related to a client’s diagnosis, exam and stimulability testing results to assess if the client would be appropriate for LSVT LOUD

Criteria for applying:

  • You must be working in a publicly funded health service.
  • As part of your application, you should demonstrate how the training course meets a specific need. Describe how you plan to apply what you learn from this course in your current role, and explain how it will benefit you, your service, or the people who use your service.
  • You must commit to attending the entire course.
  • You must be prepared to share your experience and key learnings from this training course with the wider SLT community, either through a newsletter article or by leading an online peer support session.

Applying for the course and paying the fee does not indicate you have a place on the course. Applications will be reviewed and participants will be advised by IASLT whether they have been successful. Unsuccessful applicants will be refunded their payment. 

In the event that the course is oversubscribed priority will be given to applicants who best demonstrate in their application: the benefit this training will have for service users and the benefit this training will have for their service and/or HSCP colleagues.

If you are registering your interest for this course:

  • This course is open to IASLT members and non-members.
  • As this course is funded by the NHSCP office, for prioritisation you must be working in a  publicly funded health service
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the training course fulfils a CPD need identified as part of their own CPD planning.
  • You must commit to attending the entire course.
  • You must observe the cancellation policy.

This event has a limited number of places, the cost per attendee is significantly subsidised by funding from the National HSCP Office, applicants must give a minimum 10 days notice of cancellation, by emailing kathleencpdadmin@iaslt.ie

This notice is required so that we can reallocate cancelled places.

Failure to give 10 days notice will result in:

  • Exclusion from further HSE funded CPD events for minimum 12 months.
  • Requirement to reimburse the FULL cost of the course.

Payments need to be made via the payment link provided as this is an integral step in our automatic event management system. Once you have made your payment via the link, your event registration is fully processed and you will receive your receipt and be included in other event notifications to participants.

If your employer will be covering the cost of this course,  we suggest that if possible you make the payment and recoup the cost. If this isn't possible, you may also copy your payment link and send to your accounts department so that they can make the payment by card.
