Webinar Series - Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015: From legislation to practice - 20th October 2026

The HSE National Office for Human Rights and Equality Policy are delighted to announce the next webinar in their 2026 webinar series – Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015: From legislation to practice.

The webinar series will look at some of the key areas of the 2015 Act and examine what they have meant for practice since commencement of the 2015 Act. Over the course of the webinar series, subject matter experts, practitioners and people who use our services will discuss topics including decision-making representation orders, enduring powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives.

The webinar series is primarily aimed at staff working in health and social care services. Staff should already be familiar with the 2015 Act.

The Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court: Key questions and cases

This webinar will cover the following:

• What is the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court and what has changed since 2023?
• What is the test that must be satisfied for a case to meet the threshold under the High Court’s Inherent Jurisdiction?
• What should health and social care practitioners consider in the first instance before making an application under the Court’s Inherent Jurisdiction?
• What needs to be addressed in an assessment of capacity under the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court?
