Speaker Bio: Rachel Barton

Rachel’s mission is to empower speech and language therapists at all levels to harness the  power of AI safely and ethically, revolutionising patient care and professional well-being.

Currently in her 30th year as an SLT in the UK, Rachel spent 22 years working in the National  Health Service before transitioning into independent practice. Based in West Sussex, she  divides her time between clinical work with children, families, and schools, and providing  professional supervision to SLTs across the UK and internationally.

Since March 2023, Rachel has been pioneering the use of generative AI to enhance efficiency  and effectiveness in speech and language therapy. Through workshops, speaking  engagements, and social media, she has been equipping SLTs with the knowledge and skills  to integrate AI responsibly. She has also collaborated with Leeds Beckett University to provide  training for faculty staff and students on both undergraduate and postgraduate SLT courses.

Rachel has worked closely with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) to develop the e-learning module “An Introduction to Integrating Generative AI in  Speech and Language Therapy” and has shared her expertise through national RCSLT events,  as well as guest appearances on podcasts.

In November 2024, Rachel published the "Pledge for Responsible Generative AI Use in Speech  and Language Therapy", a free resource designed to support SLTs in adopting AI safely and  ethically.

Rachel continues to advocate for the responsible integration of AI in speech and language  therapy, ensuring that SLTs feel informed, confident, and empowered to embrace this  evolving technology.
