Understanding and Managing Aversive Feeding Patterns in Children with a Neurodisability: The SLT Role

This 2-hour online workshop will inform Speech-Language Therapists (SLTs) on management of aversive feeding patterns in children with neurodisabilites. Participants will explore the aetiology, characteristics, and diagnostic criteria, emphasising early identification and intervention strategies. SLTs will discuss assessment and intervention planning, with a focus on overcoming challenges in their clinical settings. The course promotes multidisciplinary collaboration and guides SLTs in making appropriate referrals for holistic management approaches.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Reflect on the unique aetiologies and criteria for aversive feeding behaviours.
  2. Determine suitable referrals to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  3. Identify the risks associated with aversive feeding patterns in children with neurodisabilities.
  4. Explain the role of the SLT in the management of children with aversive feeding.
