Common patterns of Flexible/Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of

Swallowing (FEES) use among healthcare professionals:

an international survey

My name is Anna Sodini, I am an Italian Speech and Language Therapist and this year I am completing a Master's degree in Clinical Speech and Language Studies at Trinity College Dublin, Republic of Ireland, focusing on dysphagia

As part of my studies, I am investigating common patterns of use of Flexible/Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), as well as risks and benefits as perceived by professionals through an online survey. The intended participants are Phoniatrics, Ear, Nose and Throat doctors, Neurologists, pediatric Neurologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Nurses who perform and/or work with information gathered by FEES, and are involved in the care of people with dysphagia.

This research is being supervised by Ms Éadaoin Flynn, Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Speech and Language Studies at Trinity College Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and we would like to ask you to act as gatekeepers and advertise my project.

The survey will be anonymous and voluntary, confidentiality will be preserved. The survey will be open from Friday 20th February to Friday 3rd April 2026, and your help would be really appreciated by me and my supervisor, Ms Éadaoin Flynn.

Advertisement on social media channels, newsletters and word of mouth will be of fundamental help in gathering information on the use of this tool and in promoting evidence-based practice, investigating the use of FEES and enhancing the role and importance of healthcare professionals in the care of people with dysphagia.
