Dear colleague,
I am a Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Practice Education Co-Ordinator at the School of Allied Health in UL. I am conducting research to better understand the perspectives of Practice Educators (PEs) in Ireland on the readiness of SLT students for acute placements.
What is the study about?
The aim of this study is to understand the perspectives of acute SLT PEs on the factors influencing student readiness for placement and on potential supportive strategies to maximise prerequisite student knowledge, skills and behaviours for future implementation.
What will you have to do?
You will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey. The survey will take approximately 10–15 minutes. You will be asked questions about your professional experience in working with students and the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviour of the students you have worked with. You are also invited to share your own thoughts and suggestions on resources and supports that might help students in Acute Adult Placements in the future.
What are the benefits?
By taking part in this study, you will contribute to improving student preparation for acute hospital placements and help shape resources that support readiness. Your insights can influence future training standards and enhance the quality of clinical placements, benefiting both students and educators.
What are the risks?
Participation is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to complete the survey without any consequences. Once submitted, responses cannot be withdrawn as they are anonymous.
What happens to the information?
All survey responses will be fully anonymous. No identifying information will be collected at any stage. Data will be stored securely on University of Limerick OneDrive, accessible only to the research team. Data will be retained for 7 years after the study is completed. After 7 years, all data will be permanently deleted by the Principal Investigator. As responses are fully anonymous, it will not be possible to withdraw individual data after submission.
Who else is taking part?
SLT practice educators (PEs) in Ireland who have supervised a student from an Irish Higher Education Institution, in any Irish hospital within the last three years.
What if I do not want to take part?
Participation in this study is voluntary. As responses are fully anonymous, it will not be possible to withdraw individual data after the survey has been completed and submitted.
What if something goes wrong?
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the survey you can contact the Principal Investigator for further instructions.
What happens at the end of the study?
The findings will be disseminated in a journal article and at academic conferences. Only anonymous information detail will be disseminated.
What if I have more questions about the study or do not understand something?
If you have any questions about the study or your involvement, you may contact Patricia Donnelly (Principal Investigator).
What happens if I change my mind during the study?
Participation in this study is voluntary. As responses are fully anonymous, it will not be possible to withdraw individual data after the survey has been completed and submitted.
