My name is Alannah Foran, and I am a final-year Clinical Speech and Language Studies student at Trinity College Dublin. I am currently carrying out my final year project.
This study aims to explore the experiences of paediatric speech and language therapists (SLTs) in Ireland when working with interpreters in clinical practice.
Under the supervision of Dr Amy Connery, I have received ethical approval to conduct a research project with the aim of establishing the experiences of Speech and Language Therapists when working with professional interpreters in a paediatric setting in Ireland. Through this, I aim to identify barriers and facilitators to the current SLT service provision when collaborating with interpreters.
To carry out my study, I will be conducting online-based, semi-structured interviews with 8- 10 currently practising, CORU-registered paediatric SLTs, who have 2 or more years of experience working clinically in Ireland and have had a minimum of 5 encounters with professional interpreters in a clinical context within the last 18 months. The interview will be an estimated length of 30-45 minutes.
