Claire Mortell

Claire Mortell is currently Interim Director of Clinical Services and Family Supports, with her substantiative post being Speech and Language Therapy Manager at St. Joseph’s Foundation, Co. Cork.

With over 21 years’ experience working as an SLT in disability services across children’s and adult services, she has extensive clinical and leadership experience, with particular expertise in autism identification assessment and intervention, as well as being an advocate for neuroaffirmative practice.

Passionate about human rights, person-centred practice and service improvement, Claire completed an MSc in Person-Centred Practice in Health and Social Care with distinction at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Her research, ‘Exploring the Inclusion of Children with Complex Needs in Shared Decision-Making regarding Speech and Language Therapy Goals’, was nominated for Best Postgraduate Research. She continues to extend and share this learning with aspiring SLTs in UCC and UL, delivering an annual workshop on Person and Family centred Practice.

Claire was until recently a member of IASLT PSSC and is currently the Chair of the of the SLT subcommittee on the Disability Advisory Group (DAG), under the National Clinical Programme for People with Disabilities (NCPPD). She has contributed to national position papers, consultation responses and represented IASLT at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Disability Matters-Inclusive Education in October 2025
