Continuing professional development needs regarding managing clients with history of cleft lip and/or palate for non-specialist Speech and Language Therapists in Ireland

My name is Ava Gough, and I am a Year 4 Speech and Language Therapy student from University College Cork. I am reaching out today to invite your members to take part in an online survey for my final year project entitled “Continuing professional development needs regarding managing clients with history of cleft lip and/or palate for non-specialist Speech and Language Therapists in Ireland”.

Several surveys have been carried out in the US to investigate SLPs’ CPD needs to support their work with this clinical group. In an Irish context, research regarding clinicians’ perspectives managing clients with history of cleft lip and/or palate, as well as the challenges and required supports, is absent. Hence, this study is being carried out to address these knowledge gaps. Findings of this survey will provide important information for possible development of CPD sessions on cleft lip and/or palate to support the work of SLTs in the country.

We are looking for SLTs who are NOT specialised in cleft palate management (i.e. not working or have not worked on a cleft palate team) AND are eligible to practice in Ireland, to participate in the online survey. There is no restriction on whether or not the clinicians have seen any clients with communication disorders associated with cleft lip and/or palate.

The online survey can be accessed via the following anonymous link or the QR code below: https://ucc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a9LlQ5LgyHlPa2a. It will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Please also find attached the participant information leaflet. If possible.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this study, please do not hesitate to contact me (122323371@umail.ucc.ie) or my Research Supervisor, Dr. Alice Lee (a.lee@ucc.ie) by email.
